Aunt Lori’s Lasagna Recipe

Aunt Lori's lasagna

Why do all recipe sites give you a long-winded post about how they used to make this with their grandmother or how they were craving meatballs so they made 80 of them and froze them? No, we didn’t make 80 meatballs the other night. Why do you ask? (Yes we did.)

Here’s Aunt Lori’s Lasagna Recipe (minus the typos):

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb sweet sausage
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1.5 tsp basil
  • 1/2 tsp fennel
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/8 cup parsley
  • 4 cups canned tomatos
  • 2 cans tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1/8 cup parsley
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions:

  • Mix sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic in a pot to sauté until meat is cooked through.
  • Drain grease
  • Add sugar, salt, basil, fennel, pepper, parsley, tomatos, tomato paste, and water into pot.
  • Simmer 1.5 hours
  • While simmering, mix ricotta, parsley, egg, and salt. Cover and refrigerate.
  • Preheat the oven to 375ºF.
  • In glass pan, layer sauce, lasagna noodles, ricotta mix, and a healthy layer of shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat with sauce, noodles, ricotta, and more mozzarella.
  • Cover pan in foil.
  • Cook for 25 minutes with foil.
  • Uncover and cook an additional 25 minutes without foil.
  • Enjoy!

Now that’s how you write a recipe post.

Seriously, Aunt Lori makes the best lasagna. You should try it. And watch the episode for Aunt Lori’s recipe for garlic bread.
